Pillars for building a cohesive marketing team culture

  • October 21, 2023
Building a cohesive marketing team culture, unified and innovative, requires clear communication, trust, collaboration, and accountability. This is achieved through setting clear goals, implementing a data-driven approach, fostering trust, and encouraging risk-taking.

Building a cohesive marketing team culture is essential for any business to succeed. A cohesive team culture is one that is unified, collaborative, and focused on achieving the same goals. It is a culture that encourages open communication, trust, and respect among team members. It is also a culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and growth. By creating a cohesive marketing team culture, businesses can ensure that their marketing efforts are successful and that their team members are motivated and productive. The following are some key pillars for building a cohesive marketing team culture: clear communication, trust, collaboration, and accountability.

The key to building a successful team culture is to establish a set of core values and principles that everyone can agree on and adhere to. These core values and principles should be the foundation of the team’s culture and should be communicated to all team members.

Here are my four pillars for building a cohesive marketing team culture:

1. Set clear goals: A well articulated “North Star” is critical for any team. Setting clear goals and sharing them across a team for alignment gives purpose to the team.

2. Measure everything: Creating a data centric culture where team members share their KPIs transparently and progress to KPIs without fear will enable collaboration. Data also removes ambiguity and provides teams a safe environment to support each other.

3. Earn trust and have fun: High performing teams spend nearly a fourth of their professional lives with co-workers. An environment where trust is earned makes work fun. Celebrate success, take time out to do team activities and create an empathetic team culture where people look forward to coming to work and tacking complex problems.

4. Be bold and take risks: When you enable all the other 3 pillars on a team, you will be able to challenge your teams to be risk takers. Encourage thinking outside the box and celebrate failure as often as you reward success.
